In “Twitter Pulls Down Trump Campaign Video About George Floyd’s Death Over Copyright-Infringement Claim”, Variety’s Todd Spangler reports that on Thursday Twitter removed a video posted by Donald Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign, due to a DMCA takedown request. The June 3 @TeamTrump tweet now displays “Media not displayed This image has been removed in response to a report from the copyright holder.” (bold in original).

The video contains a number of still images and video snippets related to the George Floyd protests, and presumably TeamTrump played fast and loose and did not get copyright permission for at least one of the images.

According to Variety, this is the third time Twitter has taken down a Trump campaign video due to copyright infringement issues.

The Trump campaign responded predictably, complaining about “censoring” and saying that Twitter “has repeatedly failed to explain why their rules seem to only apply to the Trump campaign but not to others.” Maybe it’s because the other campaigns don’t try so often to copy other people’s work without permission?

Trump’s already feuding with Twitter, and this latest screwup by his campaign team is not likely to make him any happier.
